MARVELOUS MAVIS

Monday, September 20th, 2010

When I put on the new Mavis gown from My Precious, I immediately wanted to walk among roses. Fortunately, no matter what time of year it is in real life, in Second Life I can always find roses in bloom. When I was hunting for a rose garden, I found this lovely spot at APROD GARDENS.

Mavis Long

I couldn’t decide which sleeve variation to show you, so I’m showing you all three. I love the drop sleeves whether they are sculpted roses or puffy caps, but I also love the look without sleeves. I added the Blooming Roses hat from My Precious that is sold separately because it is the perfect accessory.

Mavis Short

Then I took off the bottom sections so you could see what it would look like short. I also removed the hat and added a bun from Amacci since I already had on the hairbase under the Rose hat.

Mavis up close

Finally, here is an up close shot so you can see the details in the roses and the lace. I’m not sure what it is about this gown, but it makes me want to dance. I think I’ll grab my sweetheart’s arm and take him dancing tonight.

MY PRECIOUS MARIA

The Looking Glass_001

Each time Agnes Finney gives me a new gown, I am amazed anew at her ability to create gown after gown with each more beautiful than the last. That is the case once again with My Precious Maria Supreme. The above gown has the ballgown skirt with scultped roses coming up and over the left shoulder. The rich red with gold border print is sumptuous.

The Looking Glass_003

I love how Agnes has repeated the black frill from the shoulder roses in the skirt of this version. It’s such an elegant look.

I wanted a special location for these pictures, so I went over to The Looking Glass. It’s a pretty busy area, so I tried to find out-of-the-way spots to take the photos. I was posed for the above picture and was trying to get just the right angle for the photo when a couple came by. They stopped and looked at me, unmoving for an extended time, and commented on how pretty I was. (I just loved it, but kept my fingers still.) It was only when one of them said to the other, “Do you suppose she’s real?” that I had to respond and say, “Yes, I’m real.” (I wondered that one of them hadn’t noticed my name and group tag above my head.) We had a brief conversation before they wandered on, but it brought back previous discussions I’d had with others about what is “real.” Yes, I’m virtual, but I’m also real.

The Looking Glass_002

The third and final skirt in the set is this shorter cocktail skirt. I took the shoulder roses off for this look and switched my red shoes for gold. I love getting different skirts and/or bodices for gowns because it always gives you so many options–I’ve only shown you three, but you can figure out how to add the roses for different looks yourself.

The Looking Glass_007

In a separate purchase, Agnes has also put out a couture version of this gown. Gone are the shoulder roses, traded for a gorgeous rose cap and a row of three roses just under the breasts. This is such an elegant look (above and below), it feels like it should be a limited edition.

PEACOCK QUEEN

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Yesterday Agnes Finney gave me a copy of her newest gown – Peacock Queen. I’m not sure it’s even been released yet, but here it is–I couldn’t wait to show it off.

Peacock Queen_004

Peacock Queen_005

The male peacock is undoubtedly the most beautiful bird in the animal kingdom, and his plumage is displayed to its best advantage in this amazing gown. The bodice and skirt of the gown are made of a lovely shiny black satin, and at the waist is a wide cummerbund of a golden-yellow-and-black floral print. The skirt is tiered to be shorter in the front than the back to allow shapely legs to be seen. That alone would make a beautiful gown complemented with elbow-length black gloves. However, Agnes turns a beautiful gown into a spectacular gown with the addition of an overskirt of the eyes of peacock plumes. She then tucks a lovely fan of plumes into the left side of the cummerbund making the addition of a necklace unnecessary. I’ve added only the Alienbear Designs Mayur Earrings in the Peacock coloring and my favorite black shoes.

Peacock Queen_003

I visited Ninka’s Creations to take the photos. The peacocks in the area weren’t quite sure how to react to me. I think they knew I wasn’t a threat. I did notice that many of the eyes in their tails were gone, and I wondered if that was where Agnes harvested them for the gowns. Ninka’s has many beautiful birds in the area where you can just visit or purchase if you like.

IT’S THE TRUTH

UNICEF complete

I’ve spent two days looking and buying at the UNICEF Project September 4-19 fundraiser organized and sponsored by Truth Hawks of TRUTH Hair. All of the funds raised by the UNICEF Project will go toward the UNICEF’s efforts in Pakistan. (You can read the vendors to find out what percentage of money from that item will go to the project.) I wish my pockets were deep enough to buy everything. It’s not that I need anything, but I really like supporting the efforts of the amazing and unfailing generosity of SL designers. I’m just going to share a couple of things I bought.

I don’t have a lot of long hair, but I couldn’t resist TRUTH’s contribution (besides the sim on which the project is being held). For a mere 500L, you get a fat pack of hair (A) upper hair, (b) upper hair with shells, (c) A+ lower hair, (d) B + lower hair, (e) all-in-one, and (f) all-in-one with shells. This color is almond, my personal favorite, but you get all of these pieces in 52 colors! Now that’s one heck of a deal.

My eyes also came from the UNICEF Project. They were in a set of 6 eyes that had nice natural colors. I love eyes, so I just had to have them. I chose the nice green Inwoods version to wear with my new hair. They look great.

The shirt also came from the project. (Okay, it took me a few minutes to get that it was a pun and not a shirt about vegetables, but I bet I’m not the only one.) When I purchased the shirt, SL was being contrary, and I only got a folder with a notecard. However, I copied my transaction history and put an explanation and the transaction information in a notecard and sent it to the designer. Within a short period of time, I had the shirt, so I have no complaints and a great looking t-shirt.

Finally, I’m standing in my new skybox. You only see a smidgen of it in the photo, but it’s got great graphics on the walls and I suspect you’ll be seeing lots more photos of me in that skybox.

So, if you haven’t been to the UNICEF Project, it only lasts until September 19, and  there is no time like the present. Pop on over and buy, buy, buy. Expect to spend a good two hours shopping. Here’s a taxi for your transportation needs.

HAIR FAIR MUST HAVES 1

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

There are two very frustrating things about the annual Hair Fair: (1) crowds and (2) lag. The large crowds make it very difficult to get into the fair the first week. If you are patient, you can usually get in fairly easily the second week, but none of us really wants to wait–we want to get in as soon as it opens. (Be honest now–don’t you want to get in there as quickly as you possibly can to buy new hair?)

Once you finally manage to get into the sims, you can barely move. Part of it is due to all the prims everyone seems to think they need when looking for hair, many of which have scripts in them. All of that affects the performance of the sim and slows things down so that it seems like you are trying to walk through thick gelatin. Good grief, people, wear the bare minimum and leave your high-prim-scripted-hair at home. If you must have hair and your skin doesn’t have a hairbase, get one of the hairbase tattoos. (Amacci, Miamai, Tiny Bird, and W&Y have tattoo hairbases.) If everyone would do that, it would be easier to get around and you might be able to get one of the demos to rez in less than half an hour.

I recently joined the Hair Fair DEMO Group. It’s a group that is free to join but, of course, requires that you have a group space available. The wonderful benefit of this group is that you get a lot of the demos of hairs that will be available at the fair. That means you can try them on at home where they will rez quickly and go to the Hair Fair to buy them. I love that! All of the photos will feature demos.

I’m going to do a few short blog entries that feature hairs I think I have to have. I’m making my list and checking it twice. (I got that line from Santa himself.) When the Hair Fair opens, I’ll be there–as soon as I can get in. I’ve been saving my Lindens just for this event. Here are the first two on my list.
