FINESMITHS’ DESIGN FOR JRF

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

I readily admit I love Yula Finesmith’s jewelry. She has a marvelous creative streak and a generosity of spirit that I admire. I’ve paired the delightful necklace and earrings she made for the Japan Relief Fund  (you can purchase these in her store) with a colorful gift from Gizza, one of my favorite hairs from DURA, and some of the new poses from PNP.

Yula Finesmith has made a heavenly design in two different colors for the Glance Front Row project for RFL. Get either color for only 250L–100% goes to Relay For Life. This is the only time these will ever be sold, so be sure to get yours. I love mine–they make me feel like an angel.

EXTENDING A HELPING HAND

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

This evening I found the following notecard in my notices:

HELP Tempest Ella

[PROMISE ME] Skins, Shape, Lorrey (205, 162, 31)

Tempest is a resident of Christchurch New Zealand, and she has survived the recent Earthquake which struck there, Monday the 21st of February GMT.
She is safe, and she is unharmed, as is her family.
However, the Earthquake, has unfortunately destroyed her house, and everything inside it; causing her to lose everything she owns.   She managed to grab only what she could carry and left the rest behind…
Now.. Temp is a friend on mine in SL, and a good hearted person. There are many of us coming together and helping, trying to raise money for her and her family in this time of need. So.. right now in the store… PROMISE ME… there are 4 (four) skins that are marked down half off… YES HALF (1/2) off.. and will be this way only until tomorrow… so please come in and look around and give a little to someone that lost everything.  All the money that is raised on the skins will be given to Tempest just like the others have done that are helping her..
Thank you so much

Promise

I have watched with dismay the destruction of parts of New Zealand and was happy to help earlier by going to at least one other fundraiser, so I stopped by Promise Me to see the skins. Unfortunately, the fatpack I bought is only on sale for 1/2 price through this evening (Tuesday), but others will be on sale through Wednesday and others still longer.

Here are photos of the six skins in the Earth Skin fatpack:

UNICEF complete

I’ve spent two days looking and buying at the UNICEF Project September 4-19 fundraiser organized and sponsored by Truth Hawks of TRUTH Hair. All of the funds raised by the UNICEF Project will go toward the UNICEF’s efforts in Pakistan. (You can read the vendors to find out what percentage of money from that item will go to the project.) I wish my pockets were deep enough to buy everything. It’s not that I need anything, but I really like supporting the efforts of the amazing and unfailing generosity of SL designers. I’m just going to share a couple of things I bought.

I don’t have a lot of long hair, but I couldn’t resist TRUTH’s contribution (besides the sim on which the project is being held). For a mere 500L, you get a fat pack of hair (A) upper hair, (b) upper hair with shells, (c) A+ lower hair, (d) B + lower hair, (e) all-in-one, and (f) all-in-one with shells. This color is almond, my personal favorite, but you get all of these pieces in 52 colors! Now that’s one heck of a deal.

My eyes also came from the UNICEF Project. They were in a set of 6 eyes that had nice natural colors. I love eyes, so I just had to have them. I chose the nice green Inwoods version to wear with my new hair. They look great.

The shirt also came from the project. (Okay, it took me a few minutes to get that it was a pun and not a shirt about vegetables, but I bet I’m not the only one.) When I purchased the shirt, SL was being contrary, and I only got a folder with a notecard. However, I copied my transaction history and put an explanation and the transaction information in a notecard and sent it to the designer. Within a short period of time, I had the shirt, so I have no complaints and a great looking t-shirt.

Finally, I’m standing in my new skybox. You only see a smidgen of it in the photo, but it’s got great graphics on the walls and I suspect you’ll be seeing lots more photos of me in that skybox.

So, if you haven’t been to the UNICEF Project, it only lasts until September 19, and  there is no time like the present. Pop on over and buy, buy, buy. Expect to spend a good two hours shopping. Here’s a taxi for your transportation needs.

RLF HUNT FOR A HOPE

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

The SL Clothing Fair may be over for another year, but the RFL efforts continue. The Relay Raiders Team has organized a hunt for eggs, but this is a money-raising hunt, so the eggs are not free. Most of the eggs are 10L, but don’t make the mistake of assuming that every egg is 10L. In the first eight that I bought, there was at least one for 25L and one for 100L. Remember that 100% of what you pay goes to Relay for Life, so be generous, please. Just like the Clothing Fair, you have to pay the amount that comes up to get the egg, but you can always pay more. If you pay less, you will not get the egg. (Sorry, I neglected to record what each item cost–I’m learning the new viewer and there is just too much to learn for me to remember to do everything I normally would such as recording how much I paid for something.)

The first items I picked up came from Moxie Polanos Haute Styles. She put out 15 eggs. Some are very large and obvious, others are hidden. I only found 13 out of the 15 and bought a few of them more than once–okay, I need to pay more attention, but it’s not a lot of Lindens and it goes to such a great cause. Below are items from four eggs: the bikini, the belt, the hat, and the rabbit (one of three items in that egg, that includes a rabbit to set down and a set of bunny ears).

The hunt only lasts until April 7, so get out there and start hunting! Click on the hunt sign to get a notecard with all of the participating stores.

What to Wear to the Clothing Fair

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

The 2010 Clothing Fair has opened. When you go, I know you’ll want to look your best. Here is my challenge to you–go to the Fair with an ARC of no more than 100 AND no more than one script. Here are some looks I put together for an ARC of 75 or under, and to be honest, if I’d leave off the hair, the ARC would be one for each outfit.

I will win no styling events with these looks, but I do not go to the fair to see others or to be seen by others.  I go to see the work of the designers I love and the work of designers I may not have discovered yet. I go the Fair to make purchases of the items the designers have so generously donated to the Relay for Life’s efforts to fund the very difficult task of finding a cure for cancer. I go to honor the memory of my grandmother, uncle, father, and younger sister who all died of cancer; to remind me of my friends who have survived cancer and their ordeals; and to honor the caregivers, among them my own mother.

You may have a powerful computer that allows you to be free of lag, but please remember that everyone who wants to go to the Clothing Fair does not have that luxury. Please help them by keeping your textures low so their computers don’t have to work so hard to render all of the textures you’re wearing. The easiest way to do this is to wear system clothing. In each instance above, I’ve selected pants and a shirt with no prims. I skipped the shoes and used hair that is low in prims–all but the middle hair–are available at Pocket Mirrors. The middle hair, by issa Gelber, is no longer available.

Please keep your scripts few in number also to help the regions running at their best and reduce lag. Except for the RFL vendors, all other vendors are unscripted. The builders and designers have done all they can to make this a pleasant fair easy for everyone enjoy. Please do your share too, it’s not a lot to ask.

Meet Me At Eight–Don't Be Late

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Eight o’clock PM SLT today is your opportunity to see the second of two fashion shows organized by Keira Soulstar and Xavier Midal for which the proceeds go to the Red Cross/Red Shield efforts in Haiti. Keira and Midal have gathered some of the best SL designers, models, photographers, builders, and more who have given of their talents and time to put on two great shows. Get there early so you don’t miss out, then park for a few minutes while you take care of the RL necessaries, get yourself a snack and make yourself comfortable. This show is long on talent and it takes a bit of time to share it all with you. When the show is over, wander around and place at least one bid on items that have been donated by the designers to be auctioned off. I’ve got my bid in–will you top it?

Here is your invitation, just click on it to get your limousine to the show.

DESIGNING FOR HAITI FASHION SHOW FEBRUARY 4

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Some of the most beautiful models in SL have come together with some of the most talented designers to raise money to help the injured, homeless, and hungry who survived the Haiti earthquake.

There will be two benefit shows on February 4th–the first will be 12:00 PM SLT, and the second will be 8:00 PM SLT. The models will be different and the designs will be different, so you might want to see both.

All they need now is you–you wonderful, generous people of Second Life. The sim will fill up and you don’t want to miss out, so arrive early and leave scripted items in your inventory, but bring lots of Lindens, please.

(Psst…up to now I hadn’t seen any of the designs. I’ve seen some of them now and WOW they are going to be wonderful shows. They may be a bit longer than some you’ve seen, but they will be worth every minute. So come with a RL snack and make yourself comfortable. )
